Danielle Ehrlich (South Africa) is an award winning creator, innovator, trendsetter, collaborator, brand builder and founder of True Story Studio. In her design work, she takes a wholistic approach, aiming at creating purpose and meaning.
– I am really looking at the ecosystem of the projects, whether it’s an office space, a company, a government or an academic project. I look at how I can create design thinking and social innovation around these topics, in order to create real, meaningful impact and behaviour change.
– It’s important not to think so much about separate design elements, but more about the whole. And not so much about individuals, but more about the ’us’... more about the ’we’. How do we build the ’we’ inside a system, how do we create the relationships, and spark relationships, that can create longer terms to grow those relationships?
She has worked with all kinds of products, services and places.
– From sustainable furniture design, to interiors, to spaces, and I reached a point when it became not about a product, but more about something intentional. More about an experience that people can touch and feel and smell and taste. An experience that can create meaningful change.
Her Product Design Company LIV Design was featured at the Rockefeller Center in New York. She was named an Eco Design ambassador for Sweden and named the Design Indaba Mover and Shaker. Among other things to mention, the list of awards and achievements is long.
She is a perfect match of the engagement theme at the conference.
– In order to move forward in this world, engagement is key, and the way we engage is key. If we don´t listen to the people that we trying to engage to – and give them design solutions that they relate to – the concepts can not work. It’s hard to convince people to do something if they don’t relate to it.
– If you can create human ways for people to engage, with the concept and with each other, there’s a lot more chance that your innovation, solution or organisation will be successful.
